Stars of the ’90s: No 3, Eoin Jess
Eoin Jess
A VISIONARY midfielder whose career reflected the fortunes of the Aberdeen side in which he starred. Aberdeen were left to regret five second place finishes in six years and Jess saw early predictions that he’d be a future Scotland legend ultimately fall short.
In the early 90s the sky seemed the limit for the gifted attacking midfielder willing to die for the red shirt. His love for the club potentially hindered his development and he moved on to Coventry only in 1996, when it became apparent Aberdeen were on the slide.
After a disappointing stint he was soon back at Pittodrie playing on a dreadful Aberdeen side that barely deserved his presence. Sticking around for four years he tried his luck again down south with Bradford before dropping down the lower leagues as his career petered out.
Tallying just 18 caps for his country, there is no doubt Jess was a star but he could have shone so much brighter.
