St Pauli 1-1 Aberdeen: McGinn earns point for Dons in Hamburg

NIALL McGINN netted a second-half equaliser as Aberdeen ended their German tour with another encouraging performance ahead of next week’s SPL opener at Parkhead.

And manager Craig Brown has revealed the Dons will sign former Scotland stalwart Gary Naysmith this week.

He said: “We’ll have a word with him and see what his expectations are. Looking at him just now, I would recommend we try to get him on a short-term contract at least and he can try and play for a longer contract.

“Stephen Hughes is on a short-term deal until Christmas and I’m hopeful Gary would be interested in that.”

Against the famous St
Pauli background of punks, pimps and prostitutes, the
Pittodrie side went a goal down to a second-half strike in Hamburg, after they
missed a series of first-half chances, with St Pauli keeper Phillip Tschauner in inspired form.

However, half-time sub McGinn took advantage of a late error from the St Pauli defence and Aberdeen could take a great deal of encouragement from their tour.

Craig Brown’s men had already thumped amateurs Alstatte 12-0 and lost 1-0 to Bundesliga mid-table outfit Werder Bremen this week and deserved to beat the Second Division side yesterday.

Aberdeen: Langfield, Jack (Brown 75), Shaughnessy (Anderson 46), Considine (Megginson 83), Naysmith (Maggenis 75), Hughes (Osbourne 46), Milsom (Fraser 46 (Pawlett 82)), Low (Hayes 46), Clark (Rae 46), Paton (McGinn 46), Fallon (Vernon 46).
