Scott Robinson told to take more care after ban

HEARTS boss John McGlynn has taken Scott Robinson aside to advise him on tackling following the midfielder’s recent two-match ban.

McGlynn wants better decision-making from the 20-year-old, who was ordered off in last month’s Scottish Communities League Cup semi-final for a two-footed tackle on Inverness Caledonian Thistle’s Owain Tudur-Jones.

Robinson is now free to play again and is in the Hearts squad for today’s SPL visit to Tannadice. However, there is no guarantee he will feature. McGlynn wants to see evidence Robinson has learned his lesson following his red card, although the manager stressed he does not want to inhibit his aggression.

“He’s a committed player who is going to be in there making tackles, that’s part of his game. We don’t want to stop that but he’ll need to just be a bit more selective,” said McGlynn. “He needs to be a bit more aware of what he’s doing rather than getting caught up in things because it makes it more difficult for him. He now finds himself out of the team when we’re doing well, so it’s not a formality that he’ll go straight back into the team. That in itself might learn him a lesson.

“If he gets sent off and gets a two-game ban and people go in and do a job, then it’s all the harder to get back in. Maybe that’s a lesson so he’ll know he doesn’t want to lose his place like that again.

“I’ve spoken to him just about better decision-making, picking and choosing your tackles and watching when you go to ground. You run the risk of the referee making a decision as soon as you leave the ground.”
