McCoist wants a lift

Rangers manager Ally McCoist has joined owner Charles Green in calling for the Third Division club to be pulled up to the top tier if the Scottish league structure is revamped.

The Ibrox boss says Rangers’ elevation would benefit a number of cash-strapped clubs under the 12-12-18 setup.

“Scottish football is in a sorry state right now and we have to do what’s best for benefit of the game,” he said.

“Dunfermline are clearly in trouble just now, Hearts have troubles too and we have obviously had our well-documented problems so we must do something that is mutually beneficial to Scottish football. If moving us into the second 12 means that there will be such a benefit then surely it has to happen.” (The Scotsman)

Pars consider administration

Dunfermline chiefs are in a race against time to have the Fife club put into administration to ward off the threat of liquidation.

With a number of attempts to raise fund and buyout the Pars failing, it appears that voluntary administration could be the only avenue open to the club.

It is thought that if no solution is found, then HMRC will look to appoint a liquidator for Dunfermline, but the administration route is believed to be a last resort. (The Herald)

Wales came to play

Wales are ready for a physical confrontation and won’t allow themselves to be mauled by any aggressive Scottish play tonight.

After Dundee boss John Brown said earlier this week that Gareth Bale couldn’t “run without legs”, Wales manager Chris Coleman said that Bale wouldn’t be troubled by any harsh tackling.

“I’m sure Gareth has had people playing him physically before,” he said. “He knows how to handle himself and he is a big, physical boy and I am sure he is not worried about that. It will just be another game for him. (Herald)

• Meanwhile Scotland boss Gordon Strachan has promised that his side won’t be looking to take Bale out of the game.

“The days of Chopper Harris are gone. I like watching good footballers and today’s surfaces, rules, and everything else means people like to see the sop players in the world show their skills without being kicked out of the game. I think that’s better for everybody and the same rules apply to us.”

However, Coleman says that Bale is touch and go for tonight’s Hampden clash, with an illness and ankle injury keeping him from training with the squad. (Daily Record)

Dons eye Adams

Aberdeen look set to swoop for Derek Adams in their hunt to replace Craig Brown as manager.

Ross County have knocked back an approach for their man, but it is thought the Dons will continue to chase 37-year-old Adams.

The Dingwall club’s chairman, Roy MacGregor, believes that Aberdeen will look to follow up their approach. (The Sun)

Killie circling Reguero

Spanish keeper Antonio Reguero could quit Inverness and join Kilmarnock as his contract is up in the summer.

While Caley have offered him an extension, Killie are said to be circling with an offer of their own and Reguero is said to have had a medical already. (The Sun)
