Raith Rovers 1 - 2 Dundee United: Late McLean goal seals win for United

Dundee United left it late to see off hosts Raith Rovers 2-1 at Stark’s Park, with a late goal from new recruit Brian McLean securing a win for the Tannadice men.

After a goal-less first half when few openings were created, Kirkcaldy striker Brian Graham shook off the attentions of McLean and guided the ball past Radoslaw Cierzniak in the United goal. The First Division side looked on course for a win until John Rankin floated in a cross to the back post on 86 minutes and Keith Watson arrived to volley home.

Rankin then forced Raith keeper David McGurn into a save in the last minute at the expense of a corner and, from the flag kick, Peter Houston’s side netted their winner. Substitute Ryan Gauld crossed and McLean rose highest to head home.

United manager Houston, whose side face Dynamo Moscow in the Europa League next week, said: “That’s another good 90 minutes under our belts – the main thing is to be ready for the Europa game.”
