Milan Mandaric denies Rangers takeover interest

Waiting for Video...

SHEFFIELD Wednesday chairman Milan Mandaric has denied having any interest in becoming involved with Rangers.

Mandaric moved quickly to dismiss reports yesterday that he might be interested in Rangers. The controversial Croatian-born Serb, rated the 61st wealthiest person in British football, was reported to be seeking a new challenge, and was said to be one of the “interested parties” who have contacted Rangers’ administrators this week.

But in a statement released on Sheffield Wednesday’s website, Mandaric, 73, stressed in a blunt denial that he had “no interest, now or in the future” in Rangers.

Mandaric later pledged his intention to stay with the npower League One side and said in a statement: “I can tell you that my commitment is intact and my only loyalty is with this club.

“We have 15 games to go of a crucial season and this is the time for everyone connected with our club to get together as one team with one desire and one objective. That is to get back to the Championship, which is the first major step of this football club’s future.

“It is vital I give out this information and that my supporters trust me at this critical time.

“Of course, I have had other issues in my life and everyone is aware of my recent court case in London.

“Throughout that whole process, as much as it possibly could, my focus never left Sheffield Wednesday and that is where it will be – 100 per cent – until the time is right for myself and the club to move on. When that time does come, it will always be in the best interests of our club.

“But while I am here, my commitment is total and my ambitions of achieving our mutual objectives remain the same.

“My only loyalty in football is to this club, to the Sheffield Wednesday people who have welcomed me into their family and made me feel so special in their hearts.

“It is my duty as their leader to be open, to be honest, and one thing I can guarantee my supporters is that this chairman will never let you down.”

#29 I asked him that yesterday, Jim, and no answer was forthcooming. Maybe he's just projecting his own self-image?

~28 Donny, I still don't get why Ninny thinks Rangers are a Protestant institution...I have asked him several times...but he just can't answer the simple question...Explain how Rangers are a Protestant institution?

#16 "all because they see Rangers as a mainly Protestant Institution" So there you have it, folks, according to ninny: HMRC - sectarian; Mad Vlad - sectarian; the compliant press that played at being the three wise monkeys, refusing to see, hear or speak any evil over rangers until they were forced to face the facts - sectarian; SPL and SFA - sectarian...what a laugh. Personally, I'm motivated by an innate sense of fair play and a large dollop of schadenfreude. No doubt, in ninny's eyes that makes me a sectarian bigot?

Neil Lennon and Peter Lawwell have handled this week superbly. Both men can hardly get any higher in my levels of respect for them.

#12 ninny. If rangers lose the big tax case, it'll be because they used EBT's in an illegal manner. Non-contractual payments - no problem. Contractual payments - illegal. There's none so blind as those who will not see.

Good point made by Neil Lennon: last season, it was all about how bad Celtic and rangers were for Scotland, now politicians and media are falling over themselves to be the first to say rangers must survive "for the good of the game". The hypocrisy is there for all to see. Where was the "good of the game when the Daily ranger drove a hearse past Celtic Park - "RIP Celtic"? Where were the calls to save Hearts, Scotland's third force in recent times, when they were threatened with a winding-up order? For the real "good of the game", the corrupt practices at Scotland's biggest cheat need to be fully exposed and dealt with as they would be for anybody else. Any other outcome would be a clear sign that Scottish football is being run for the benefit of one club, and one club only.

Today is not a time for Rangers to show defiance, anger or violence...today Rangers fans must try and protest peacefully and with dignity...afterall to paraphrase another Govanite and former Shipyard worker Jimmy Reid "the world is watching"

If Rangers start afresh as Ibrox United or something....then I reckon it will take a few years to get back to a trophy winning level. For a start they'll need to buy a whole new squad and that will be around the £20m up front cash injection.

Anyone trying to buy Rangers just now needs their head seeen to...the time to buy "Rangers" or the assets will be at Liquidation...not administration. I reckon that's what will happen Liquidated and Ibrox bought by the Paul Murray Consortium for around £20m, then it's a new start, newco and in effect Rangers will have got off light.

Scottish fitba is over if Rangers die but sadly the bigots like poster 17 can't see the wood for the trees ... really sad that this cancer within the Celtic support and our society in general are still motivated by sectarian hatred ... if anything the trouble that Rangers are in has highlighted the real culprits ...

Getting rid of the rotten apple that is Rangers would mean a new dawn, a rebirth of Scottish Football.
