UEFA President Michel Platini has offered an olive branch to Celtic by announcing he plans to attend the Parkhead side’s Champions League clash with Juventus.

Platini, who gained hero status at the Italian club, enraged Celtic fans when he dismissed their chances shortly after the draw was made.

However, it has emerged that Platini has written to Celtic apologising for his comments, and is set to attend the match as a VIP.

In December, the former French international was quoted as saying: “After being drawn against Celtic, we can already consider Juventus to be in the quarter-finals - they will count themselves very fortunate.”

However, Platini has denied ever making such comments and claims that his comments were taken out of context, in a letter sent to the Parkhead club.

In the written apology, he expresses his respect for Celtic, who accepted the apology and invited him to attend the last 16 match as a VIP guest.

Platini played 147 games for the Turin giants, scoring 68 goals in the process.
