Kevin Kyle targets return to action following successful operation

HEARTS striker Kevin Kyle is quickly feeling the benefit after undergoing “last-chance” surgery to cure a recurring hip injury.

Kyle, who has not played for 13 months, is optimistic he can overcome long-standing fears for the future of his career following his operation in Coventry last week.

The 30-year-old told Hearts News: “I’m very optimistic and can feel a difference straight away.

“I’m quite excited about the future but am not going to rush things.

“I have a 12-week rehab plan and I’ll see where I am and how I am feeling after that.

“But I’m not going to put any time frame on anything.

“I know this is my last chance so I want to make sure I get things right and get back training when I’m ready.”

The news has further lifted the mood at the club following a 2-1 extra-time win over St Johnstone which sent Hearts into the William Hill Scottish Cup quarter-finals, where they will host St Mirren.

Kyle said: “It would be brilliant if Hearts got to the final in May. I might have to cancel my stag do for that!

“But, seriously, it would be a real boost if we could get there and if I was even doing some training by then, the buzz around the place would be great.

“But that’s a long way off. I just want to focus on doing my rehab programme and then see how things are.”

Skipper Marius Zaliukas scrambled a late winner at McDiarmid Park despite playing through a knock during extra-time in an unfamiliar striking role.

The defender said: “I don’t think I’ll be playing as a centre-forward regularly. I won a couple of lucky headers.

“It was a brilliant feeling to win the game. The last few years we’ve struggled in the cup so this feels a wee bit special.

“To have a home game is a good draw. We’re looking forward to hopefully getting to Hampden.”

#35 Fair enough, I stand corrected for misinterpretation.

#32 How arrogant is that then. Who are you to decide what purpose my posts serve and how informative they are or are not. Are you suggesting I have had no-one in agreement with any of my posts either on Hibs or Hearts articles? Fair enough if you do not rate the information or content of my posts but don't give yourself elevated status assuming you can speak for others. I am not interested in the usual protracted exchanges with you so will not enter into any further this evening but I will contribute when and if I see fit. To be honest for what it is worth you have actually praised some of my posts in the past but really it is not important to me as it seems to be to you so I will leave it at that. I still remain of the opinion that you are intolerant of any poster disagreeing or having alternative views, that in itself is harmless, but does not make you right.

Hannon, I congratulate you on your honesty in admitting you were pleased the day in 1986, when Hearts lost the league on goal difference. You are, however quite wrong to assert that, had the positions been reversed, I too would have been pleased. I might have engaged in a bit of friendly banter but I'm too fond of my Hibbie father-in-law and two Hibbie sons-in-law not to have felt sympathy. You seem to interpret any expression of pleasure by a Jambo when his team does well or any favourable comparison with your own team as 'arrogance'. I was merely pointing out things that I perceive as 'arrogance' from Hibs fans. I might also have added 'delusional' but I'm not arrogant enough to do so.

Nothing changes eh. Ma Da's bigger than your Da's et al. ToTT behaving like the auld geezer in the pub - who has seen it all, done it all, worn it all and cried it all. Perhaps there should be a dedicated thread just for Tott - that way, whoever wishes to discuss (what he has been discussing since I posted years ago), the same old, same old should vote for such a thread. Tott's Amnesia, or Tott's Alzheimers Thread? Roses are red, violets are blue, I've got alzheimers. Happy New Year. GGTTH

HANNON.... U R fabricating to discredit .I did not say my religion was any concern to you Facts are Facts & it is stupid to argue but you do...... HEARTS game time to ACADEMY products being greater than Hibs & Hearts head to head with Hibs in 50's & 60's being better. What purpose it serves is subjective but what purpose do you think your posts serve? Do u yhink they are meaningfull & informative? Do U think anyone wants to know that you laughed when Mullen was greetin after the Derby defeat(19's)? Again subjective but I can certinly point to half a dozen Hibs posters who have taken time out to compliment me on my contribution & objectivity. You..... No!, Re over confidence......re read my posts....fairly clear I am far from confident with HEARTS current form....which is poor..... I tell it how I see it. However fair enough post and I accept the bottom line is that we R all a bit guilty and at leat you try & argue your case as opposed to the LCD posters (mrH : Yak)who are like wee school bairns trying to police the threads.). I am maroon from top to bottom but if HEARTS do not win it I hope Hibs do......I would stop short of going(albeit been to see Hibs in Cup Finals before) and I certainly could not handle being up the toon in Edinburgh but I would nbe delighted for all the long suffering(in terms of SC) dyedin the wool Hibbies I know....... as for the armchair mouthpieces (Yak: sirB) who care more about Hearts demise than Hibs i dare say they would make an exception and actually attend a game. However my money will be on 1-0 Hibs & Griffiths on Sunday so put a £1 on it and we can rejoice together come Monday as a prefered alternative to sweety wife exchanges.

#26 Your opinion Tam to which you are entitled. Personally I have many a boasted triumph and probably the highlight being the League Cup final beating of Celtic in 1972. In fact that month or so will live in my memory forever. I certainly do not fall into the category you suggest in relation to Dundee but I would not insult you by saying that I was not happy with the outcome at Paisley and Dens that day. I am sure if roles reversed you would have been the same. You are also old enough to have witnessed many a good Hibs side achieving great results both domestically and in Europe so your wee jibe about Leith San Siro and flair does not wash with me I am afraid - good try though. Ok I submit, there was no flair in the Scott Brown, Steven Whittaker, Kevin Thomson, Garry O'Connor, Derek Riordan etc team - a team that demolished the Admin boys on there own patch in the Scottish. If that was not flair then any attempt to call the Alan Johnston game "flair" falls flat. Made my point in relation to your jibes in that post have I?

#28 Doing nothing of the sort and I most definitely have no concern one way or the other over your religion. I do wonder why you are trying to link me with this though - perhaps an attempt to discredit me? Facts are Facts stupid to argue, my contention is that you pick out specific periods to maximize Hearts dominance over Hibs. I don't think that there are many in the know that dispute the overall Head to Head record but I question why it is regurgitated time after time and what purpose it really serves. For example I have witnessed both sides coming out on top in Scottish Cup ties against each other but seems from most on here that they are happy to go back in history to only one game to make a point whilst ignoring other games. Accept both are gulity of this. If we meet in the Scottish, I certainly will not be going along feeling inferior because of the 4-0 semi. If we win I will be delighted but if you lose then your "assured" party might be more of a wake than party. Dangerous to get too confident. In any case it would not surprise me one bit if St Mirren and Ayr progress and both sets of fans in Edinburgh return from games with tails firmly between legs AGAIN. Neither Edinburgh team has been convincing so far so why the over confidence?

#24 HANNON....U R doing a SIR B......by fabricating to discredit(EG I am apparantly a Catholic who is bigoted v Catholics!)..... no facts manipulated....highlight same ?ENLIGHTEN......your excitement re your prediction re Hearts v STJ........to be fair I had forgot Hibs beat Hearts on the way to them winning the league Cup........ tbh Hearts fans do take beating Hibs for granted and our current form: lack of strikers & Hibs adding what looks like some good players does make me: would make me Less confident for next months: any cup game but I would prefer a game whereby Hibs do not roll over & if we are knocked out the Cup i would be delighted for all the genuine dyed in the wool loyal Hibbies if they won the cup. Bitterness is a horrible trait in my opinion.

Hannon, sorry to have to tell you this but the 'arrogance' of any particular set of fans is not taken into account when deciding the outcome of footballing contests. This is patently the case when examining the record of Hibernian FC, the 'flairmeisters', the inhabitants of the 'Leith San Siro', the club whose most boasted triumph was a two-nil win by Dundee in 1986.

#21 If that were to happen then there is no doubt the Irish league would immediately become stronger than the SPL so careful what you wish for.

#19 Still to be convinced by your ' factual' stats as well aware of your tendency to manipulate information, no matter no big deal to me. On conjecture, I would welcome clash with Hearts in cup if for no other reason than that would mean Hibs had negotiated tricky tie against Ayr. Confident we could come out on top, especially given the arrogance of the Hearts fans. Many seem to conveniently forget that the last Edinburgh team to win a major domestic trophy in Scotland defeated their near neighbours on the way. I certainly have no fears of any meeting, especially now that Hibs appear to have been strengthened. As to the last few days being difficult for me I have no idea what you are on about but willing to be enlightened. Finally with regard to one messing themselves, I would suspect you were a lot closer to that than me on Tuesday night until wee Suso dived to save your dream for another few weeks.
