Jocky Scott back at Aberdeen as first-team coach

Jocky Scott has returned to Aberdeen for a third spell after being handed the role of first-team coach.

The 64-year-old – who played for the Dons in the 1970s and managed them along with Alex Smith a decade later – will join up with manager Craig Brown and assistant Archie Knox.

The three have a wealth of
experience in the game and a combined age of 201.

The club say he will work “primarily with the young members of the first-team squad”. Chief executive Duncan Fraser said: “We recognised at the start of the season that, with the very high levels of young players throughout the club, that an additional coaching resource would be of real benefit.

“Craig identified Jocky, who has a fantastic reputation and we are delighted to have him on board. This appointment will also enable Neil Cooper to dedicate 100 per cent of his efforts on developing the under-20 squad.

“The work Neil has done in recent years has been excellent and we are seeing the rewards for all his efforts with the
emergence of the young players now making the step up to the first team.”

Brown added: “We are delighted to be adding Jocky to the coaching staff here at Pittodrie. His expertise in the game is unrivalled and he will undoubtedly enhance the high level of coaching we already provide our players here. Jocky will work closely with myself and Archie to continue the development of the promising young players at Neil Cooper has helped to produce.”

Scott is already a firm favourite at Aberdeen. The former striker played over 50 times for the Dons, scoring 17 goals including a hat-trick against Rangers in the semi-final of the League Cup. And he was co-manager when Aberdeen won the cup double in 1989-90.

Most recently he was manager at Stirling Albion. He was appointed in January 2011 and, after they were relegated from the First Division, parted company with the club at the end of that year.

Scott has also had spells in the dugout at Dundee, Dunfermline, Arbroath, Hibs, Notts County, Raith Rovers and Plymouth,
