Ivan Sproule out to help Hibs restore pride
Ivan Sproule is ready to shoulder the responsibility of trying to repair Hibs’ battered pride.
The 31-year-old Northern Irishman is one of the senior players at Easter Road and, having been part of the squad that suffered a humiliating season last time round, he is hellbent on ensuring the club he has grown to love regains its respect.
Aware that he is the oldest player in the Hibs team, Sproule knows he needs to take it upon himself to try and galvanise a squad that narrowly avoided relegation before being crushed 5-1 by Hearts in the Scottish Cup final last season.
Sproule, speaking ahead of tonight’s friendly with Union Berlin in the German capital, said: “The gaffer wants us to put a bit of pride back into the club and into the Hibs jersey. We don’t want to be fighting at the wrong end of the table. If your own pride didn’t take a hit after the defeat to Hearts then there is something wrong with you.
“I have a lot of experience under my belt and I do like to push as much information as I can on to the young players. They are all quick to remind me I am the oldest one in the squad now, but the manager likes me to air my views along with the captain, James [McPake].”
