Hibs’ Scott Robertson ‘is close to his best’
Pat FENLON believes Hibs fans are about to see the best of January signing Scott Robertson as the midfield star nears full match fitness.
Robertson arrived at Easter Road during the transfer window having played a mere 60 minutes of first-team football this season after seeing his move from Dundee United to English Championship outfit Blackpool turn sour.
The 27-year-old, who has won two Scotland caps, was pitched straight into SPL action just two days later as Hibs lost to Ross County in Dingwall and he has featured in every match since with Fenlon describing his performance in the 1-0 victory against St Mirren at the weekend, which took Hibs back into fourth place in the table, as his best yet.
As Robertson prepared for a first return trip to Tannadice in a green and white jersey on Sunday, the Easter Road boss said: “Scott tired towards the end of the second half which was to be expected as he has not played a lot of games.
“The only way of getting him games is to get him into the team and I think the games he has played for us will help him.
“His fitness levels are improving, you can see him getting his legs and he got around the pitch against St Mirren very well. I thought it was his best performance for us.”
And Fenlon believes there is more to come from Robertson as Hibs aim to secure their primary aim of a top-six finish. He said: “Scott has a good record in this league and he will be a big asset to the team. He’s a totally different midfield player to what we have.”
Meanwhile, Hibs Under-20s drew 0-0 with Hamilton at New Douglas Park last night.
