Hibs midfielder Lewis Stevenson ruled out for six weeks

HIBS’ worst fears were realised today as the Easter Road club learned midfield star Lewis Stevenson will be out of action for up to six weeks after breaking a toe in the derby clash with Hearts.

As the Evening News revealed, the 24-year-old was left sweating on the results of a scan on the big toe of his left foot after being forced to limp out of the Capital clash just five minutes into the second half.

Stevenson had actually sustained the injury ten minutes before the interval but played through the pain to use that foot to deliver a raking crossfield pass, initiating the move which led to team-mate Leigh Griffiths cancelling out Jambo winger Andy Driver’s opening goal.

And he even insisted on taking to the pitch for the start of the second half but was forced to quit as Honduran internationalist Jorge Claros took over in the middle of the park for the remainder of a match which ended in a 1-1 draw.

Now, though, tests have confirmed that Stevenson will be sidelined for between four and six weeks meaning he’s set to miss six important SPL matches for Pat Fenlon’s side, starting with Saturday’s trip to face St Mirren in Paisley. He’ll also be ruled out of the start of Hibs’ Scottish Communities League Cup campaign away to First Division Queen of the South.
