Hibs’ Eoin Doyle wants new contract at Easter Road
HIBS striker Eoin Doyle today revealed he’s yet to begin talks on a new deal although he’s desperate to remain at Easter Road.
The flame-haired Irishman is one of eight players out of contract at the end of the season while Leigh Griffiths, Ryan McGivern and Jorge Claros will all see their loan deals expire at that stage, the Edinburgh outfit having successfully negotiated extended stays for the trio with their parent clubs.
Boss Pat Fenlon has already disclosed Hibs have begun speaking to some of those coming to the end of their current contracts although David Wotherspoon is the only player he’s confirmed as being among that number.
Doyle was Fenlon’s first Easter Road signing, joining the Capital club on an 18-month deal last January from League of Ireland side Sligo Rovers where he had been a prolific scorer in each of the previous two seasons.
At present he is Hibs’ second top scorer behind Griffiths having claimed eight goals so far but, he admitted, there’s been no mention of a new contract although he insisted he wasn’t losing any sleep over the situation.
The 24-year-old said: “There’s been no offer, nothing. I’m just concentrating on my football at the minute, that’s the last thing on my mind. My football will do the talking when it comes to that situation.”
Doyle admitted he’d happily stay with Hibs, revealing he now feels he’s fully adapted to the SPL. He said: “I love the place, I love Hibs, I love the area, everything about it, but it’s not even in my mind, just football.
“When I first came across I found it much quicker and there were parts of my game I hard to work on, and I am still working on. But I think I have adapted now.”
Meanwhile, former Dundee United player Scott Robertson has been added to the ever-growing list of players said to be on the move to Easter Road as Fenlon attempts to add to
his squad before the current transfer window closes on Thursday with only St Johnstone star Liam Craig
confirmed on a pre-contract deal which will see him join Hibs in the summer.
Robertson moved to English Championship club Blackpool on a three-year deal only last July but so far has made just one appearance for the Lancashire club, lasting barely an hour of a 3-0 defeat away to Cardiff in September.
Reports have suggested the 27-year-old is ready to return to the SPL but there is a complication at Bloomfield Road in that Steve Thompson is acting as caretaker following Michael Appleton’s defection to Blackburn Rovers which may result in the club being unwilling to sanction any move at this particular point.
Gregg Wylde has also been mentioned, the former Rangers winger having returned to Bolton Wanderers following a loan spell with Bury but, apparently, willing to make another temporary move with Hibs said to be favourites.
Fenlon, though, has insisted that while he and his backroom staff have been very active in pinpointing potential signings, he won’t speculate on names.
