Hibs boss sure Scott Robertson will prosper

HIBS boss Pat Fenlon today backed new midfielder Scott Robertson to prove he has the quality to hold down a regular first-team place at Easter Road.

The Scotland cap, who earlier this week signed a two-and-a-half year deal with the Hibees, made only one first-team appearance during an ill-fated six-month spell at Blackpool. Fenlon, however, believes the 27-year-old will prove to be a valuable addition for Hibs, with the ex-Dundee United midfielder going straight into the squad for tonight’s SPL clash with Ross County in Dingwall.

Fenlon said: “He gives us a different option and hopefully he shouldn’t need too much time to bed down. He knows the league and he has a wealth of experience in that regard so we are delighted to add him to the squad.

“He knows that going down to Blackpool probably hasn’t worked out as well as he would have liked but he has come back to join a decent club so he can kick on again with his career.

“He is definitely hungry to prove himself and he is not going to need a lot of time to bed in.

“He knows the league inside out, he knows the players in it and he knows a bit about the club.

“Sometimes when you bring a player in, they need a bit of time to settle in but, hopefully, he can come in and hit the ground running for us.”

There had been some suggestion that Robertson’s arrival signalled the end for Jorge Claros but Fenlon insisted that he is hoping to have both players at his disposal – and that there are sufficient differences in their styles of play that both can play in the same team.

Fenlon added: “Jorge and Scott are two different types of player so if we manage to hang onto Jorge as well as bringing Scott in, then it is a good bit of business, but it has dragged on so long and had so many twists and turns that I am reluctant to say too much.

“In football you just never know.

“It’s been a drama but we are hoping to put it to bed.”
