Hearts ‘confident’ tax bill will be paid after latest winding up order

Hearts have expressed confidence in their ability to pay a tax bill which has led to another winding up order being petitioned against the club.

The petition was presented to the Court of Session by the Advocate General for Scotland on 27 January and published yesterday, with Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs [HMRC] giving the Edinburgh club eight days to pay. The sum is understood to be in the region of £150,000. It is part of a larger fee owed by the club to HMRC, the balance of which was paid late last year. Other orders were served in 2009 and 2010.

The club issued a response to the public notice, which appeared in yesterday’s edition of The Scotsman. “The club is aware of the notice placed in a newspaper today relating to an earlier petition presented to the Court of Session,” read the statement. “The club is working to resolve the situation. The club is confident that the relevant matter involving HMRC will be resolved in the very near future and no action as specified in the public notice will take place.”

While the statement was authorised by senior figures at the club, questions remain as to whether Hearts’ parent company, Ubig, will provide the funds to prove such confidence is well placed. Vladimir Romanov, the Hearts owner, has already resolved to stop funding the club.

Hearts’ perilous financial predicament has been highlighted by the delayed payment of player wages in recent months. January was the first time in four months the players received their salaries on time. Hearts avoided unlimited sanctions from the SPL as a result, though only after the club were charged due to some players not receiving their wages until the morning after the deadline imposed. The SPL board sub-committee later decreed that the Tynecastle club had acted in good faith by instructing their bank to make payment the previous day.

The club were thwarted in their attempt to raise significant income during January’s transfer window. Only Eggert Jonsson and Ryan Stevenson left Hearts for fees, which, when combined, are believed to have boosted the club’s finances by over £200,000. But the club lost out on another £80,000 when Marian Kello refused to move to Austria Vienna on the last day of the window. The wage bill has, however, been reduced due to the departures of several squad members. John Sutton has also just agreed a short loan deal with Australian club Central Coast Mariners.

As well as being required to resolve the situation with HMRC, Hearts also need to locate the funds to cover the next wage outlay, which is due to be paid a week tomorrow.

#94 Hen why is it when anyone points something out to you you have a pop at them, I was pointing out something which did not make sense and suggested you read your posts before you submit them. I was not making any reference to your content being right or wrong just trying to help you but you always get aggressive. Why ??

Week Kent Jambo SPL become the equivalent of the league of ireland ? I thought it was already there and it's getting worse week in week out, Over the past two or three seasons the combined Scottish league s have lost over 200.000 supporters,Instead of HEARTS,HIBS,CELTIC,and RANGERS and all the other football clubs in Scotland having a go at each other ,they should be looking at the BIG picture,Football in Scotland has been in free fall as far back as 30year,s when ANDY ROXBURGH was in charge ,he warned the then hierachy at the time ,NOBODY TOOK A BLIND BIT OF NOTICE AND THEY ARE STILL NOT ! look at our position in world ranking,s WE ARE THE LAUGHING STOCK EUROPE ! None of the top European players want to play here, when they do it's temporaly. So they can get a big money move to one of the big money club,s in the CHAMPIONSHIP IN ENGLAND! That's right the CHAMPIONSHIP ! We can't even compete with the teams in the LEAGUE 1 LEAGUE 2 in England or even some of teams in the BLUE SQUARE LEAGUE .things will only get better when we start from the bottom ,up STARTING WITH A CLEAROUT AT THE ,SFA They are the ones with there HEADS in the sand ,LET'S ALL WAKE UP BEFORE ITS TOO LATE FOR ALL OUR TEAMS!

wrote a tremendous witty response to HANNON but its done a Hibs fan base on me. In summary....... you had the point to make...up to you to make it & back it up not up to me to guess your point & back it up for you. 1-0 HEARTS with a RUDI Brazillian type effort or a ZALI Gordon McQUEEN effort. Remember to turn up your hearing aid in the hope that you might hear that Bigoted clown Baldrick leading the two dozen infiltrating plukey kids i a rendition of Hello Hello!!!!! .....last but not least I take it you noted that 'once agai' Hearts afforded their ACADEMY gradates more game time than Hibs at the weekend.

HANNON...did not read your post as it will be more of the fingers in ears & eyes closed variety but noted your prediction at the end. if we play like we did on Sunday then U R being generous.....if we get into their faces then 1-0 HEARTS with Rudi (Brazillian style) or Zali (Gordon McQueen style) scoring the winner. I will have 50p on both. BTW did you note the HEARTS v HIBS ACADEMY graduates stats comparison at the weekend. Once again heavily weighted in HEARTS favour. If you keep trying ond day you will be right. Heading off to get the minibus & round the bairns, grandbairns & Granpa up to head to the most atmospheric staduim in SCOTLAND....you mind & get yer hearing aid up to full in case the clown BALDRICK leads the dozen wee bairns in a redndition of HELLO HELLO!....Be sure & let us know if they do.

#91UPTODATE.....my stats (not checked) 137 wins to 85 on competive games.....overall record now stands at HEARTS 274 wins to Hibs 197 with a massive 176 goals difference in Hearts favour. Hearts i have different STATS.########re the 'flair' debate .......(realise i am currently debating it with myself but i find talking t myself more interesting than exchanging with Johnny J & Hannon) ......cracking analysis on LONDON HEARTS with the following conclusions.....Prior to WWII Hearts clearly superior. The Era of the Famous FiveTerrible Trio very even. Hearts slightly better off in number of times scored more goals (2 times more), Hibs better in goals per game average (1 more than Hearts).Turnball's Tornados Hibs clearly superior. Since Hearts return to Premier Hearts are much better off......... very subjective basis for concluding overall that indeed HEARTS not HIBS are synonomous wit 'flair' but a bit better than Pat Nevin says it so it must be true.

#94 No, not strictly true, you suggested that this publication would catch up with the news but would somehow conveniently miss out some relevant comments of Vlad. You then proceeded to relay the content of said article without full reference to all Vlad's quotes. Reason being there were some comments that it would be fair to interpret were not great news for Hearts. But carry on with your half full glass. Prediction for tonight? 3-0 or 3-1 to Celtic.

60# Hearts could ask Hibs for a loan. They have more short term loans than wonga.

#92 JJ..... u were being a smart ar$e ....i have pointed this out before. Fairly obvious what I meant & i concede I am occasionally guilty of human error but u feel free to point out if u feel necescary. #93 No suprise you once again fail to highlight the data that YOU referenced or the relivance of same. I dealt with the SUN article including the negative implications. You seek to keep the data & your interpretation of same a secret. Good debating technique!!!!!!

#90 No surprise there then. As usual guilty of extracting information from articles and posting them out of context to fit your agenda. No matter anyone reading the FULL article in the Sun comprising all the comments made by Vlad ( presumably accurate given the quotation marks) then reading your take on it on these comments pages will clearly expose you for what you are - blinkered on all things Hearts. I honestly believe if Hearts go to the wall, and I am in no way hoping this happens, you will still not believe it to be true until the padlocks are put on the gates or even the bulldozers move in.
