Hearts want David Templeton suitors to raise their offers

HEARTS have received several approaches for winger David Templeton but are still awaiting an acceptable transfer offer for the player.

The Edinburgh club will consider selling the 23-year-old only if they can secure a suitable fee and find a replacement before the transfer window closes next month. Sergejus Fedotovas, Hearts’ Lithuania-based director, revealed to the Evening News today that the board are in no rush to sell players after several high-profile names departed on freedom of contract at the end of last season. Templeton has not sought a move but clubs in England have spoken with Hearts officials and continue to track his progress.

Hearts have so far rebuffed the interest because they do not feel Templeton could be replaced for the money being discussed. The player’s contract runs until June 2013 and Fedotovas stressed any deal must benefit the club first and foremost. It is believed the board would seek a total deal worth as close to £1million as possible before agreeing to any transfer.

“We have had interest in Templeton but for us it is most important to look after the shape of the team,” he said. “We will evaluate that interest on the basis of what options there are to replace the player and strengthen the squad.”

Leeds United have been credited with an interest in Templeton but they are not monitoring him at present. Manager Neil Warnock said the winger is “not someone I’m looking at”.
