Hearts’ Ryan Stevenson in limbo after move blocked

RYAN STEVENSON faces the prospect of remaining in exile for the next five months with no football action after Dundee United’s attempts to sign the Hearts midfielder failed.
United made an inquiry for Stevenson but have been unable to agree a transfer with Hearts, who are reluctant to let the unsettled player join a rival club in the Scottish Premier League.
With the transfer window due to close in five days’ time, Stevenson’s chances of securing an exit from Tynecastle are dwindling.
Crawley Town’s £20,000 bid was rejected last week with Hearts seeking £100,000 for the midfielder, who has refused to train or play since December 22 because of previous wage delays.
Stevenson’s contract expires in June and he could find himself left in limbo until then if he fails to secure a club before next Tuesday. He asked Hearts to agree to terminate his contract last month but that request was refused. Bristol City continue to monitor the situation but they have yet to make a move for the 27-year-old.
Hearts striker John Sutton is also attracting interest from a number of clubs but, like Stevenson, he will not be allowed to leave for a rival SPL side. The latest team watching Sutton is the Australian A-League outfit Central Coast Mariners, who are contemplating a loan move.
However, with only Sutton and Stephen Elliott as recognised first-team strikers, the Hearts manager, Paulo Sergio, would be left short on attacking options if he allowed the Englishman to leave.
Meanwhile, young Hearts striker Robert Ogleby has spent this week on trial at Falkirk with a view to a loan move.
The Welsh Under-21 internationalist spent the first half of this season loaned to East Fife.

Friday, January 27, 2012 at 01:03 PM60 Surely the only thing pathetic is the poster who is forced to retire from the forum with tail between legs who creeps back in the rear door with a new name. Really pathetic.

Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 11:34 PMc4....the poster attempted to suggest that Hearts fans were more tolerant of Thomson than Stevenson therein inferring double standards It is transparently obvious why HEARTS fans are currently silent on CT.....IE because he no longer trains with Hearts or is considered for selection for Hearts by HEARTS volition RS & RS alone has decided to be AWOL . The article is about RS....CT issue was debated at the time & Hearts fans were anything but silent. As I said a pathetic post.

Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 11:05 PM#57 What a pathetic post. How do you know Thomson is drawing a wage? Who R U to assume what Hearts fans think about Thomson? He ir irrelevivant to anyones opinion on RS as there is NO corelation between the two situatons other than in the 'warped' mind of a deluded Hibs fan who scrapes the barrel to discredit Hearts & their loyal supporters.

Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 10:22 PM56 baldrick. Your comment regarding Ryan Stevenson states that the sooner he goes the better. This is a man fighting for his rights. What is your take on Craig Thomson. Still Hearts player and still drawing a wage. As a man Stevenson can hold his head high, something that Thomson will never be able to do. Would welcome your response but I suspect it will be no comment. A lot of fans happy to crucify Stevenson but happy to keep quiet on the Thomson front. Sad

Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 09:56 PMThis is what the corporate world describes as a win, win situation. We neither want nor need this player. He wants to go. I presume despite his protests he is now on no wages whatsover having withdrawn his labour. Because I am compassionate by nature I hope he can find another club but the sooner he is gone the better. Technically I suppose, he has already gone.

Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 09:16 PMprobably could use stress as a factor leading to his decision, In any case if he is still with the club after the window it will be of no benefit to the club and a better all round that the player goes, selling to your competition is a last resort though but that is got to be close to where the mark now is.

Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 06:02 PMEleven starting players plus, five "seniors" on the bench (plus say two 18 year olds to make 7 subs)......If Hearts had ALL their players fit and ready to play - Ryan Stevenson in my eyes wouldn't even get on the bench.........In fact - if you don't include Driver, Kyle and Grainger (our three long term crocks-off and on for two) RS would STILL not get on the bench......not good enough - and have said that for well over a year-- barring 5 matches in which he showed quality~ish play - over-rated.
