HEARTS have been fined £4,000 by Uefa after several supporters spilled on to the pitch to celebrate David Templeton’s memorable goal at Liverpool last month.

The Control and Disciplinary Body met in Nyon on Thursday and decided that the Gorgie club should be punished for their fans’ behaviour during the second leg of Europa League play-off clash at Anfield on 30 August.

Templeton – now at Rangers – triggered euphoric scenes when he brought the tie level in the 85th minute with a strike in front of the 3,000 strong travelling support.

However, Uefa observers took a dim view of the small number of supporters that ran on to the pitch to celebrate. Hearts have three days to notify Uefa of any intention to appeal the penalty.

A Uefa spokesperson said: “Heart of Midlothian FC have been fined €5,000 by the Uefa Control and Disciplinary Body for ‘pitch invasion by supporters’ at last month’s UEFA Europa League play-off second-leg match at Anfield Road between Liverpool FC and the Scottish club.”
