Hearts boss says Darren Murray ‘invaluable’

JOHN McGLYNN today paid tribute to Darren Murray and highlighted the key role he expects Hearts’ football development manager to play in his vision for the Gorgie club.

The new Hearts manager was responsible for bringing Murray to Tynecastle as Under-19s coach during his first spell at the club. And having been reunited with Murray this week after spending six years in charge of Raith Rovers, the Jambos boss admits he is delighted to have someone of his calibre in his coaching team.

“Darren has done some great work with the youth players, which is obviously very important,” said McGlynn. “I actually brought Darren in to the club. He has worked for Hearts for approximately ten years now and has been responsible for every single player who has come through into the first team in that time.

“He will be invaluable to me in the weeks, months and, hopefully, years to come.”

With Edgaras Jankauskas poised to be the final piece in the Jambos’ coaching set-up, McGlynn also took the opportunity to highlight the role he expects Gary Locke to play at Tynecastle.

And he believes that the former defender will have gained a wealth of experience from his time working alongside Jim Jefferies, Billy Brown and Paulo Sergio.

“I am looking forward to working with guys like Gary Locke,” he said. “Gary was obviously a big player for the club and he is a big fan as well.

“You can see his passion for the football club and you can see the benefit of him having worked with Jim Jefferies and Billy Brown.

“He has also worked alongside Paulo Sergio and his backroom staff and he is doing his UEFA Pro Licence so he has learned an awful lot.”
