Fenlon urges absent Hibs fans to head back to Easter Road

Pat Fenlon: urging Hibs fans to back the team

PAT FENLON today called on fans who haven’t seen Hibs in action so far this season to head for Easter Road on Saturday as the club look to get back on the winning trail against basement outfit Dundee.

The Dens Park club were a late replacement for Rangers following the Ibrox outfit’s demotion to the Third Division, with Hibs one of those opposing the Glasgow side retaining their place in the top flight, a move backed by the majority of their supporters.

However, other than the visit of Capital rivals Hearts, gates at Easter Road haven’t topped 10,000 this season, despite the promising start made by
Fenlon’s side. The Hibs boss is now determined that his players “reconnect” with their fans following two years of bitter disappointment.

Fenlon believes the defeat by Aberdeen last weekend, which brought Hibs’ six-match unbeaten SPL run to an end while also robbing them of the chance to go top of the table, will prove to be nothing more than a “hiccup” as his new-look side continue to improve.

He said: “As a group, our collective attitude has changed and I think everyone can see that with the results from the opening two months of the

season.

“But we won’t pat ourselves on the back – nothing has been achieved just yet. The group are hungry to build on an encouraging start, but they fully accept there is room for improvement.

“This group is still learning, the development of the squad is a work in progress and we experienced a hiccup up at Aberdeen. But hopefully our supporters have recognised a difference in the work ethic, honesty and commitment shown by our players.

“The least I expect from any player in a Hibs shirt is total commitment and giving everything for the team. From what I have seen, I believe the supporters who have come to our SPL matches this season will have noticed that.

“In the SPL this season, the margins are so fine that no team can afford to ever lose sight of the basics and we will be focusing on preparing the right way for Saturday’s match against Dundee.

“There has been a buzz around Easter Road this season and the players have fed off the positivity coming from the stands. Our fans have been fantastic and we’re still in the early stages of a journey that all together will hopefully bring continued success to the cub.

“Stay with us and if you haven’t been to a home game this season please come along and be part of what is happening.”
