MOTHERWELL have been handed a tough tie in the Europa League play-off round after being drawn against Spanish Primera Division side Levante.
Greek outfit Panathinaikos knocked Motherwell out of the Champions League stage with a thumping 5-0 aggregate win in the recently completed third qualifying round.
Stuart McCall’s men therefore drop into the Europa League and they find their route to the main draw blocked by Levante, who enter European football for the first time after finishing sixth in La Liga last season.
They do not have any links to Scottish football but do count former Rangers duo Gabriel Amato and Shota Arveladze and current Celtic assistant manager Johan Mjallby amongst their ex-players.
Well will host the first leg before travelling to the Estadi Ciutat de Valencia a week later.
Meanwhile, Motherwell have re-signed Birmingham defender Fraser Kerr on a six-month loan deal.
The centre-back has been training with Motherwell for several weeks and McCall has now been given the green light to proceed with a deal.
The 6ft 3in player spent six years in Motherwell’s youth ranks before signing for Birmingham in 2009.
The 19-year-old said: “My aim is to try and win a first-team place. I don’t expect to just walk into the team at all.
“But I will work as hard as I can in training and if the chance comes along, I want to take it.
“Obviously I spent a lot of time at Fir Park when I was young and it’s great to be back home again seeing a lot of old faces again.”
