Elgin City 1 - 4 Ross County: Free-scoring SPL new boys show their premier credentials

COLIN McMenamin is confident he can take his free-scoring First Division form into the SPL for Ross County.

The 31-year-old netted 20 goals in the Dingwall side’s promotion charge and got one in their 4-1 win over Elgin.

McMenamin said: “I’ve scored a few at SPL level in the past so I don’t have any great concerns about doing it again. If I’m playing and getting the chances, I can certainly get goals. But we need them to come from all over the park.”

An ankle injury to Rocco Quinn put a dampener on the victory for County, and Elgin striker Stuart Leslie suffered a suspected broken leg.

Scott Boyd headed the SPL men in front on nine minutes from an Ian Vigurs corner before McMenamin fed former Hearts striker Gary Glen to make it 2-0 on 21 minutes. A third followed five minutes later when another Vigurs corner was met by a McMenamin header at the near post.

Elgin got one back via Craig Gunn, but two minutes later, their trialist goalkeeper, Neil Duffy, punched a corner into his own net.
