Dundee United land Mark Millar on pre-contract

Dundee United have signed Falkirk midfielder Mark Millar on a pre-contract agreement.

United say the 24-year-old has signed a three-year contract, which will come into effect when his Falkirk deal expires at the end of June. The central midfielder joins Ross County winger Michael Gardyne in signing a pre-contract at Tannadice.

United manager Peter Houston said: “In my opinion we have now captured the two best players in Division One with Mark Millar and Michael Gardyne. Mark has shown the right attitude and mentality in leaving Celtic to go down a division in order to kick-start his career.

“That decision has been vindicated for him in now signing this pre-contract agreement which will enable him to showcase his talent at SPL and European level. He is a different style of player to those we have here already and the way he plays the game will make him a fans’ favourite here at Tannadice once he arrives.”

Paisley-born Millar has spent two seasons at Falkirk after failing to make a first-team breakthrough at Celtic Park. The former Scotland under-21 international scored seven goals for Steven Pressley’s side last season.

Houston is being forced to rebuild a significant portion of his side for a second successive summer with goalkeeper Dusan Pernis, defenders Gary Kenneth and Paul Dixon and midfielders Scott Robertson and Danny Swanson looking for new clubs after their contracts expired.

Meanwhile, United have announced a pre-season friendly against Everton at Tannadice on 18 July.
