Craig Brown admits Aberdeen must sell Fraser Fyvie now

CRAIG Brown admits Aberdeen must sell Fraser Fyvie now if they are to get a realistic return for the highly rated midfielder.

Fyvie’s current contract ends in December and the teenager has made it clear he has no intention of extending his stay at Pittodrie.

English Premiership outfit Fulham have been linked with a move for the player, but the Craven Cottage side angered the Dons last season by signing Jack Grimmer under freedom of contract. That left Aberdeen with just £200,000 in compensation for a full back they believe was worth considerably more and Brown is hoping history doesn’t repeat itself with Fyvie.

They also had to settle for a
cut-price deal when Scotland striker Chris Maguire moved to Derby County and all the Dons manager wants is a fair price for the players they have developed.

That’s why he believes Aberdeen must sell now to get the best return on someone predecessor Mark McGhee reckoned would be worth £10 million some day.

Brown said:“ Fraser is here at the moment, but I still expect him to be gone as things accelerate as the season approaches. That would probably be the preferred option for both parties and I must admit
I thought he would be away by
now.

“There is no animosity here – we have been very open with each other about the situation.”
