Changing room chat: Paul Lawrie brings Dons a trophy

WHO said Aberdeen supporters wouldn’t get to see a trophy being paraded at Pittodrie this season?

Just a week after Craig Brown’s side saw any hopes of silverware dashed by a Scottish Cup defeat at Hibernian, celebrity Dons fan Paul Lawrie will provide perhaps a smidgen of consolation for the Red Army this Saturday when he shows off the Ryder Cup at half-time.

Aberdeen play St Mirren in the SPL this weekend and the club announced yesterday that the Samuel Ryder trophy – won by Lawrie and his Europe team-mates in dramatic fashion at Medinah in September – is being flown up from London. Lawrie, who was pictured at Easter Road on Sunday, can probably expect a better reception than than the players when he takes to the pitch.

Windsurfer banned after baby cover-up

PORTUGAL’S Olympic committee has banned a female windsurfer for life for concealing her pregnancy so she could compete in the London Games. Carolina Borges failed to turn up for the competition in Weymouth. She emailed an official at the time, saying she couldn’t compete because of illness and personal matters. Medical personnel were unable to contact her.

The Portuguese OC said yesterday that it has barred her from competing for Portugal because she didn’t inform authorities she was pregnant.
