Rangers manager Ally McCoist has confirmed he is attempting to bring Daniel Cousin back to Ibrox, after watching the Gabon international in action in the African Nations Cup.

The striker left the Scottish champions for Hull in 2008 but could be set for a return to Glasgow.

McCoist is desperate to bolster his attacking options following the sale of top goalscorer Nikica Jelavic and Cousin could be an option.

The Rangers boss said: “I’ve spoken to Daniel at great length over the last few days.

“I’ve watched his performances in the African Nations Cup as well and he is very keen to come.

“It goes without saying it’s a department we definitely need strengthened in so we are hopeful that we can get things finalised and get him over here.”

Rangers and the Scottish Football Association are attempting to confirm when his contract with FC Sapins ended and that he is indeed a free agent.

McCoist added: “We haven’t heard back from the Gabon FA. I know the boys at the SFA have been trying to contact them as well for total clarification on when his contract ended.

“Speaking to his agent and speaking to Daniel himself, they don’t see any problems with that situation.”
