SIGNED as a 17-year-old by Willie Bonthrone, Miller became Aberdeen’s most successful ever captain as, under the managership of Alex Ferguson, the Dons broke the Old Firm’s monopoly and won every domestic honour.
Miller led his team to three league titles, four Scottish Cups and three League Cups.
The pinnacle was a night in Gothenburg in 1983 when he lifted the European Cup Winners’ Cup after beating Real Madrid 2-1 in the final. They followed that up by adding the European Super Cup.
Described by Ferguson as “the best penalty box defender in the world,” he made a record 558 league appearances for Aberdeen, was voted the club’s greatest player of all time and won 65 Scottish caps.
Miller later served two spells as Aberdeen manager.
