NEIL Lennon is reportedly in the running for the Norwich City job, Hearts take on Hibs in the Edinburgh derby, and Dave King may yet join the board at Rangers, plus more football news in Sunday’s Rumour Mill.

Lennon ‘on Norwich City shortlist’

CELTIC manager Neil Lennon is one of four being considered for the vacant managerial role at Premier League strugglers Norwich City, according to the Sunday Mail.

The Mail report that Lennon is on the shortlist for the role alongside Malky Mackay, the former Celtic and Scotland defender who was sacked by Cardiff earlier this season.

Lennon is believed to want the chance to work in the top English division at some point - the Canaries are just one point clear of the relegation places with two games to play. (Record)

Hearts eyeing Kevin Thomson move

HEARTS are reportedly considering a shock summer move for Hibernian midfielder Kevin Thomson.

Reports in The Sun on Sunday claim that the 29-year-old midfielder is considering making the move to Tynecastle when his current contract at Easter Road expires at the end of the season.

Thomson said: “This will be the first summer I go into not having a pay, being out of contract and not having somewhere to go. It’s a different situation but not one that affects me in any way.” (Sun)

Edinburgh derby: Hibs relegation would be terrible, says Locke

HEARTS manager Gary Locke has claimed that relegation for Hibernian would be bad for the whole of Scottish football, ahead of the Edinburgh derby this lunchtime.

Locke said: “If you look at the bigger picture, we don’t have a league sponsor, we don’t have a sponsor for the League Cup and we need all our top teams in the top division.

“There’s no doubt about that - (Hibs) going down would be a blow, even with the prospect of four derbies next season.” (Record)

Neil Lennon - ‘Samaras is a £5m star’

CELTIC boss Neil Lennon has resigned himself to losing Greek striker Georgios Samaras in the summer, and believes that the striker will garner offers from top clubs across Europe.

Lennon said: “We only have three or four weeks of the season left and there has been no indication he will stay so I’m assuming he will go.

“I don’t know if I can directly replace him but I’m going to try anyway. He’d be worth in the region of £4m or £5m.” (Various)

Rangers: Wallace opens door to King

RANGERS CEO Graham Wallace has welcomed the possibility of Dave King becoming involved in the club at boardroom level in the wake of the business review into the Ibrox club.

Wallace said: “What we’ve said is we will go to the shareholders for authority in the autumn… when we do that, the equity offering will be open to existing shareholders, it should probably also be open to fresh investors, including Dave King

“When we met with (King), when you look at his ambitions and his vision for what he would like the club to be, they’re not dissimilar to what we’re trying to do.” (Scotsman)

Euro 2020 bid: Strachan backs ‘home of football’

GORDON Strachan has said that Scotland should see off potential competition from the Republic of Ireland to win a hosting bid for the 2020 European Championship.

Strachan said: “I hope we get the vote for 2020. It’s the home of football for goodness sake.

“Have a think about it. They (Ireland) have the Gaelic football and all the rest of it with the full Croke Park. It must be us.” (Mail on Sunday)
