Di Canio ‘wants Celtic job’

PAOLO Di Canio “would love” to take charge of Celtic, according to his agent.

Matteo Roggi told the Daily Record: “Paolo confirmed to me he would love to work for Celtic.” Di Canio’s UK adviser Phil Spencer is quoted as saying Di Canio “would seriously consider an approach by Celtic” in relation to the vacant managerial role at the club.

Di Canio scored 12 goals in his 26 league games for Celtic during the 1996-97 season. (Record)

Hibs’ Craig “embarrassed” as Leith side relegated

HIBERNIAN captain Liam Craig has admitted that he and his teammates will be lucky to stay with the club next season after their relegation play-off defeat to Hamilton.

Craig said: “The fans have got every reason to want to get rid of the manager, the players, everyone. We have been an embarrassment.

“I think if you are here next season then you will be very, very lucky.” (Various)

Scotland v Nigeria: Super Eagles coach bans stars from plane

NIGERIA’S preparations for their friendly clash with Scotland on Wednesday have been rocked by a bizarre bust-up between manager Stephen Keshi and some of the country’s overseas-based stars.

Keshi has now banned those players from taking the team plane from Lagos to London, where the Scotland game will be played, saying only players who normally play in Nigeria can take the flight.

Keshi said: “I’ve told (the players) that our camp opens in London and we’re not travelling with any foreign players from here.” (Express)

Norwich want Park as Director of Football

CELTIC’S chief scout John Park is reportedly a target for recently-relegated Norwich City, according to The Sun.

Park, who has led scouting at Celtic Park for the last eight years, is thought to be the Canaries’ top target for their role as Director of Football.

If Park takes the job, he will replace former Rangers player recruitment boss Ewan Chester. (Sun)

Celtic manager latest: Wieghorst, Mackay linked

• FORMER Celtic midfielder Morten Wieghorst has admitted he feels “honoured” to be linked with the vacant managerial role at Celtic Park.

Wieghorst, assistant manager at Swansea City during Michael Laudrup’s reign, said: “It is a great club and I enjoyed some fantastic times there.” (Herald)

• MALKY Mackay has been backed to take on the Celtic job by one of his former players.

Don Cowie, who played for Mackay at Watford and Cardiff, said the role at Celtic “would probably suit (Mackay) perfectly.” (Mail)

• EX-Wigan boss Owen Coyle has described David Moyes as one of the best managers in the game. Coyle made the claim during a Scotsman/BT Sport video Q&A, in response to a question on whether Moyes would be a good fit for the Celtic job. Watch the video in the player. (Scotsman)

Rangers’ Mohsni pleased with Tunisia call-up

RANGERS Bilel Mohsni could make his international debut for Tunisia against South Korea later this week.

Mohsni has been called up to the national squad for Wednesday’s friendly against South Korea, and believes it is recognition for his play this season.

Mohsni said: “I’ve had a great season with Rangers and my performances have obviously been noticed.” (Mail)
