Driver signs new deal as Riordan linked

HEARTS received a boost last night when Andrew Driver signed a new five-year deal.

The 20-year-old winger put pen to paper on his return to Edinburgh yesterday following the Tynecastle club's pre-season trip to Germany.

Driver had been linked with a move to English Championship side Burnley over the summer, but has opted to commit his future to Hearts instead.

"We've been negotiating for a while and now I just want to get on the pitch and show the people who had faith in me that I am worth it," Driver told Hearts TV. "Hopefully it shows I am doing something right. It is all about improvement now. I can settle down and not worry about anything else. It takes out the transfer rumours and now I can concentrate 100 per cent on improving my game and giving 100 per cent for Hearts."

Meanwhile, Hearts have again been linked with a move for former Hibs striker Derek Riordan, who has made little impact at Celtic since his move from Easter Road in 2006.

The 25-year-old was reportedly the subject of tentative Tynecastle interest in November last year.

Midfielder Jonathan Brown, 18, has penned a five-year deal.
