Emilio Izaguirre last night pledged his future to Celtic and revealed his ambitions to become a top manager.

The Honduran full-back is preparing for the World Cup and is now in a training camp in Miami, USA. Izaguirre enjoyed an outstanding season as Celtic romped to another title success. And although he’s admitted that he will one day return home to finish his career before moving into management, he’s happy to stay at Parkhead for the long term. He said: “If Celtic decided to sell me, then no problem, but my desire is to stay with them, play and win titles and play in the Champions League.

“That’s what you will remember for the rest of your life. I want to be part of Celtic for many years to come. My dream is to one day return to Honduras and prepare to become a great manager. Motagua is my team, but I am a professional and would coach anywhere.”

The left back is also convinced Honduras can spring a surprise or two at this summer’s World Cup. He said: “This is the pinnacle of my career. Some people think that the European-based Honduras players no longer care.

“But remember, sometimes we have to travel for 14 or 15 hours and play two days later, so that demonstrates our commitment to our country. We are highly motivated to make an impact at the World Cup.”

Meanwhile, Celtic and Scotland legend Danny McGrain is now resting at home and recovering well after suffering a minor heart attack last week.

McGrain and the club have been inundated with well-wishes and messages of support from Celtic supporters and further afield in the football world. He said: “I’ve been truly amazed at all of the messages sent to the club and calls I’ve received.”
