Rangers midfielder Ian Black feels he has begun to repay manager Ally McCoist’s faith in him following his betting misdemeanour.

Black went right back into the starting XI for victories over Stenhousemuir and Ayr United after serving a three-match for breaching Scottish Football Association rules on gambling.

Black’s offences included betting against Rangers to beat East Stirlingshire last season and he is relieved to have been given a chance to continue his early-season form.

The 28-year-old told RangersTV: “We’ve got a big squad and there’s quality throughout it so there’s pressure on all of us, especially the starting XI.

“I’m just delighted to have been given the opportunity to come straight in and I think my performances in the last couple of games have kept me in the side.

“I went out of it on silly terms but the manager has shown faith in me and I’ve come back and done well.”
