Spartans dumped pre-match favourites Hibernian Ladies out of the Scottish Women’s Premier League Cup last night to secure a fourth-successive final appearance.
The 2-1 victory was revenge for the Ainslie Park girls and comes just five weeks after Spartans were thrashed by the same opponents in the league.
A goal in either half from Louise Mason and Sarah Ewens proved enough as Debbi McCulloch’s side deservedly progressed despite Katey Turner pulling a goal back for the Hibees in the closing moments.
“I’m so proud of my players because their effort was endless.” commented Spartans Manager McCulloch. “They were fantastic, kept their shape and took our chances when they came along.
“Hibs are a very good and talented team, they make life very difficult but we took our chances and deserve our place in the final.”
Hibs boss Willie Kirk admitted his side deserved nothing from the match, saying: “We’re really disappointed, but we didn’t perform. We wish them every success in the final.”
Spartans will now face either Forfar Farmington or Glasgow City in the final to be held later this month.
