Forfar pass Albion to lead race for play-offs
Forfar will sit above Arbroath in the race for the Division Two play-offs for 24 hours at least by virtue of having scored more goals than their Angus neighbours following last night’s 4-2 win over Albion Rovers.
The bottom-of-the-table Coatbridge team stunned Station Park by taking the lead after 12 minutes when Pat Walker headed in a Marvin Andrews knock-on, however they could not hold onto their advantage until half-time. Danny Denholm levelled matters three minutes from the break when he converted a Gavin Malin cross and goals from Martyn Fotheringham and Dale Hilson inside seven minutes of the restart put the Loons in command. The visitors had Peter Innes dismissed butthey grabbed a goal through Andrews before Denholm was also red-carded and Malin sealed Forfar’s success with two minutes left.
Arbroath are in action tonight against Alloa and as well as looking to go back above Dick Campbell’s side they are also be looking over their shoulder at sixth-placed Stenhousemuir who won 2-1 at Ayr.
Michael Moore had missed an early header before David Winters gave the Honest Men the lead 12 minutes from half time when he sent a fine header home from a cross by Adam Hunter. Sean Dickson equalised on the hour mark via the woodwork and Marc Corcoran got the winner two minutes into injury time.
The match between Brechin City and leaders Queen of the South was called off as Glebe Park was unplayable.
