Third Division: Speirs hopes to push on after stellar month
Queen’s Park’s head coach Gardner Speirs made plans for his side’s re-arranged game with Annan Athletic at Hampden today with the Irn-Bru Phenomenal Manager of the Month Award for September in his grasp.
His team go looking for the fourth league win in a row that would extend their lead over Rangers, next Saturday’s opponents, to four points, with Speirs praising his recast squad for their recent displays.
He said: “As each win was earned, our confidence grew and to win 4-0 at a hard place like Elgin was terrific.”
Full back Andrew Robertson will be missing as he completes a two-game suspension. Giuseppe Capuano and Allan Urquhart are both unavailable. Annan are again without the injured pair of Jack Steele and Graeme Bell.
Elgin manager Ross Jack is hoping that a team bonding day at Perth last Saturday will set his players up for an early Christmas present against visitors Montrose. Striker Dennis Wyness has been ruled out with a knee injury with Jack delaying naming his team as several players missed training on Thursday night due to illness. A win for Montrose would lift them into fourth spot but they have fitness doubts over defender Alan Campbell and midfielder Paul Watson.
