Third Division: Elgin still ‘best of the rest’

ELGIN City continue to be the ‘Best of the Rest’ in the Third Division with their 3-1 win over Berwick Rangers keeping them within two points of Rangers.

In what was a frustrating day for Elgin’s far travelled opponents, Daniel Lavery had an early goal chalked after a debatable offside call before City’s Mark Nicolson opened the scoring on 16 minutes.

Ross Gray levelled 2 minutes, later however Stuart Leslie tapped home before half-time to put City back in front.

Berwick missed several chances to equalise in the second half before Elgin substitute Dennis Wyness sealed the win in the last minute.

Annan moved into third place with a 5-2 win over Stirling Albion who finished the game with 9 men following red cards for goalkeeper Sam Filler and Gary Thom.

Ally Love and Scott Chaplain both scored for Annan before half time before Albion’s Graham Weir got a goal early in the second half. Kieran McGachie then made it 3-1 before Stirling’s Stephen Day grabbed a second goal ahead of strikes from Michael Daly and Love that ensured the points would stay at Galabank.

Finally, Montrose won 2-1 at Clyde thanks to a late winner from Jamie Winter.
