Slick Alloa stretch their lead
Alloa last night moved seven points clear at the top of the Third Division after making it six wins on the spin with a clinical dismantling of a spirited Peterhead side.
The hosts made the breakthrough in 12 minutes when Ben Gordon slotted home a Graeme Holmes cutback from close range.
Peterhead equalised in the 34th minute, when Rory McAllister pinged an exquisite strike from 20 yards high past the helpess Alloa goalkeeper, Scott Bain. Parity lasted only two minutes, though, as Mark Docherty restored Alloa’s lead with a fine strike after a corner had broken to him on the edge of the box.
The win was sealed in 64 minutes when Steven May volleyed home from close range after Paul Jarvie could only punch Stevie Masterton’s corner into his path.
