Rangers administration: Ally McCoist won’t make decision on who stays and who goes
RANGERS manager Ally McCoist will not be involved in deciding which of his players are made redundant this week.
Administrators Duff and Phelps are expected to announce details of job losses at the stricken Ibrox club within the next few days and have confirmed for the first time that playing staff will be among those who have their contracts terminated.
McCoist, while prepared to assist the administrators in dealing with the outcome of their decision, made it clear he is not prepared to offer any recommendations of which players should stay or go.
“Morally, I should not and will not be judge and jury over anyone’s future,” said McCoist. “Having said that, I will help the administrators 100 per cent in any way I can.”
So far, only Director of Football Gordon Smith and Chief Operating Officer Ali Russell have been made redundant since Rangers went into administration 13 days ago.
“We are still looking at other cuts and I expect to make an announcement about this at some stage next week,” said co-administrator Paul Clark at the weekend. “But those cuts will undoubtedly include playing staff.”
Rangers captain Steven Davis, who scored the opening goal in his team’s 4-1 SPL win at Inverness yesterday, admits fears over the potential consequences of administration have weighed heavily on the players.
“The problem is we know as little as anyone else because there is a real uncertainty surrounding the club,” said Davis. “It’s difficult to take but maybe we’ll find out more this week. Everything seems to be up in the air so we were just delighted to come to Inverness and get a result. It was a bit of a release for us.
“Fraser Wishart of the PFA has been in to speak to us and he’s tried to tell people where they stand. But it’s out of his hands as well. The administrators are in charge.”
