Elgin miss out on top spot after Annan’s fightback
Elgin City blew the chance to top the Third Division for a second time in three days, letting the lead slip twice against visitors Annan and having to settle for a 2-2 draw.
Jamie Duff put Elgin in front after half an hour with David Hopkirk levelling four minutes later. Craig Gunn then put the Moray men 2-1 up before Hopkirk equalised at the start of the second half.
Jack said, “I am not angry with the boys. I am just frustrated for them as we have had two opportunities to go clear at the top.”
Annan manager Harry Cairney said, “We fought back to draw at Queen’s Park and came from behind twice here to draw. I am hoping our players will take some belief from these results.”
Peterhead also missed an opportunity to take over the leadership of the league, losing 2-1 at East Stirling.
The Blue Toon took the lead from the spot after just two minutes through Rory McAllister but Kevin Turner levelled before the break before hitting the winner in the second half.
Following their win over Rangers, Stirling were brought back to earth with a 3-1 home defeat to Montrose.
A Kieran McAnespie own goal plus strikes from Leighton McIntosh and Scott Morton sealed the win with Gary Thom scoring for Stirling.
Finally, Berwick Rangers defeated Clyde 2-1 thanks to Neil Janczyk and Steve Notman after Kevin Watt had given the Bully Wee the lead.
