Dunfermline overcome early setback at Berwick Rangers

Dunfermline came from behind to clinch a 2-1 win over Berwick Rangers at Shielfield, with Andy Barrowman converting a Paul Burns pass with 15 minutes left to win the contest.

The Borderers took the lead with a minute played when Fraser McLaren picked the ball up after a mis-hit clearance from Ian Murray. The winger found John Ferguson and the striker stroked the ball home.

Parity was restored on 20 minutes when Andy Kirk netted from the penalty spot after Devon Jacobs had used an arm.

Dunfermline were awarded a second penalty five minutes into the second half when Kirk was bundled over but Youseff Bejaoui saved. Berwick almost secured a draw only for McLaren’s late effort to thump against the woodwork.

There were no goals but plenty of excitement as Dumbarton hosted a St Mirren XI. Paisley striker Thomas Reilly headed against the bar after four minutes, but the First Division side were soon on top.

Jim Lister was denied by Grant Adam before James Creaney sent a drive inches past. Lister then pushed a shot wide after Adam had parried a Bryan Prunty effort. The second half saw chances at both ends but the deadlock could not be broken.

Cowdenbeath defeated hosts Spartans 2-1 with Central Park youngster Michael Fleming popping up with the winner two minutes from time. Greg Stewart had given the Blue Brazil a first-half lead but the East of Scotland League side levelled through Jordan Finnie in the second half.

Peterhead spent a frustrating evening against visitors Fraserburgh before substitute Robbie Winters popped up with the only goal of the game.

Scott McLaughlin, Jamie Redman and Callum Macdonald had all gone close but former Scotland striker Winters got the goal the Blue Toon deserved from a Martin Bavidge cut-back.

Summer signing Gavin Swankie scored twice as Forfar defeated Lochore Welfare 3-1.
