Yorkston confident Pars can pay tax bills

Chairman John Yorkston is confident Dunfermline will raise the funds to pay their impending tax bill and can shake off fears over their future to emerge stronger in the coming months.

The Pars have until next 
Monday to pay a £50,000 bill to Her Majesty’s Revenue and 
Customs and two more days to raise a further £31,000 in unpaid taxes or risk being placed in 
administration.

“We’ve been there before and got through it and intend to get through it again this time,” said Yorkston, who is set to stand down from his post at the end of the season following a raft 
of recent boardroom changes, 
which are hoped will inject new impetus and investment into the East End Park club.

He added: “Enough folk have said they will help that, if it all comes in, we should be fine. We were paying six-figure bills quarterly before, the difficulty this time being the projected income, with five or six weeks between home games.”

The First Division side have only one home game this month, against Dumbarton on 24 November, but next month have meetings with Hamilton and Falkirk at East End Park, as well as a share of the gate from the Scottish Cup clash with Partick Thistle on 1 December. With a New Year Fife derby against Raith Rovers also on the horizon, Yorkston believes the current problems – which saw players and staff not paid their salaries in full on time for October – are short term.

“Everybody has tax issues and we always knew this was going to be our most difficult and 
awkward month,” he insisted.
