Sons sack Adamson

Bottom of the First Division Dumbarton have parted company with manager Alan Adamson after a winless first quarter of the season.

The Sons were led to promotion by the former Manager of the British Police team back in May when they defeated
Arbroath and Airdrie United in the promotion play-offs. However, having picked up only two draws in the league so far this season the club’s board have acted by sacking Adamson and placing his assistant manager Jack Ross in interim control of first-team affairs.

The club’s Chief Executive Gilbert Lawrie said, “We have not taken this decision lightly but results this season have
been unacceptable and a change is required. Jack has agreed
to become interim manager as we invite applications for the post.”

Adamson was appointed to the post two years ago following a spell as assistant to Jim Chapman who was moved into a Youth and Community role after a disappointing start to a Second Division campaign.

“We would like to put on record our thanks to Alan for all his hard work at the club and we sincerely wish him well for the future. It is vital that we all pull together as a club and ensure that we start to progress up the league in the coming weeks,” Lawrie added.

Saturday’s 2-0 home defeat by Falkirk ironically marked the start of a second season’s worth of First Division games that Dumbarton have failed to pick up a win in.

Their last season in this league, in 1995-1996, saw them fail to win in the last 28 games of the season.
