O’Brien keen for Livingston to move on

BURTON O’BRIEN urged his Livingston teammates to bounce back from defeat on Saturday by winning next week against Cowdenbeath.

Livi went down 3-2 to Dumbarton at the weekend, with goals from Jordan Morton and Iain Russell not enough to overcome strikes by Bryan Prunty, Andy Graham and Scott Agnew.

O’Brien said it was disappointing not to make more of the chances the side created, but the team has to move on quickly.

He said: “We’ve been on a good wee run of late and it’s a home game against a team we beat last week so we’re coming into the game not expecting to win, but obviously confident we could – so to lose is very disappointing.

“We’ve got to bounce back, the game’s gone now and there’s nothing we can do about it. We’ll just have to get back into training on Monday, look at the video and see where we can do better to try and get the three points and get a wee run going again on Saturday.”

He added: “I think we had a lot of the ball, we lost cheap goals and perhaps a couple of dodgy decisions as well. We did create a few chances ourselves, unfortunately we didn’t take a couple more.”

The visitors blasted their way into the lead on four minutes in spectacular fashion. Prunty chested down a cross ten yards out before his overhead kick sent the ball flying into the top corner.

Livi’s Iain Russell squared for Jordan Morton to finish at the second attempt on 22 minutes – but the away side were back in front in a matter of seconds.

A long ball in to the box spun loose on the six-yard line and Graham bundled it home.

Then stopper Jamie Ewings saved from a Kevin McCann header and Kyle Jacobs shot, before he tripped Russell in the box right on half time – and the striker converted the penalty himself.

It was another spot kick that won the match for Dumbarton against the run of play, as Agnew scored after Prunty went down under pressure from Jacobs on 70 minutes.

Dumbarton’s Mark Gilhaney was sent off for foul and abusive language with ten minutes to go, but while Livi hit the post twice they couldn’t find a third equaliser.
