New position giving Bobby chance to dazzle for Livi

Bobby BARR picked up the man-of-the-match award as Livingston defeated Hamilton Academical 1-0 to leapfrog their opponents and go third in the Irn-Bru First Division.

Striker Mark McNulty bagged the winner after 52 minutes, and Barr hopes the Lions can keep up their good form after Gary Bollan’s men responded to last week’s dramatic 4-3 defeat at Falkirk.

He said: “I’m enjoying my football. I’m playing in a slightly different position in the middle of the park as part of a three in midfield. We’re playing well, and if we can keep winning we’ll do all right this season.

“After being 3-0 down at half time last week, we wanted to come out right from the start and not let a team get a few goals against us. I thought we were unlucky not to go in leading and I didn’t think Hamilton offered a lot. In the second half we continued to dominate, and while they’re going to have spells where they’re going to have chances, Andy McNeil’s not really had a save to make, whereas their keeper’s made three or four good saves.”

Livi dominated the first half and should have been ahead earlier, as Barr shot wide after beating two of his markers, while Kyle Jacobs and McNulty both had long-range efforts saved by David Hutton in the Accies goal.

The home side made the breakthrough just before the hour when McNulty stooped low to head a curling Rory Boulding cross into the bottom corner. Stefan Scougall and McNulty again both had later efforts blocked by Hutton, before sub James Chambers almost grabbed a late equaliser, but his shot was saved by McNeil.
