Morton 0 - 0 Falkirk: Falkirk relying on Ross County collapse

FALKIRK’S title hopes now look to be resting on Ross County blowing a gasket following this Cappielow stalemate, from which the home team will justifiably feel they ought to have taken all the points, such was the litany of chances they missed.

No doubt looking to consign their 6-0 cup shellacking at the hands of Motherwell last weekend to the dustbin of history, it was Morton who had the better of a first half all too often bogged down in a midfield battle with Archie Campbell passing up three very presentable chances, including a one-on-one with Bairns keeper Michael McGovern.

Minutes after the restart the home team were again guilty of cheaply tossing away opportunities, this time from the spot after Tam Scobie was harshly adjudged to have deliberately handled Fouad Bachirou’s drive. However, if the decision was soft then the kick from Peter MacDonald was positively feeble as McGovern made a comfortable save low to his left.

Falkirk’s much-hyped young guns offered more as the game wore on, yet despite having the game’s outstanding performer in midfield schemer Mark Miller, they failed to register a meaningful shot on target as both teams had to make do with a share of the points.
