Morton 1 - 2 Hamilton: Accies take all three points off inconsistent Morton
HAMILTON put the brakes on their worrying slide towards the danger area of the First Division courtesy of a wholly deserved three points against an inconsistent Morton.
Accies hit the front after 11 very one-sided minutes, John McShane firing low into the far corner, having been afforded the freedom of Inverclyde by a dozing home rearguard. That the big striker is on loan from St Mirren only served to rub salt in Morton wounds.
Without their first-choice central defenders or a recognised right back, the Ton defence was struggling to be good enough to qualify as an utter shambles, so it was little surprise when Andy Ryan doubled the margin for Accies with a dipping strike from distance.
Such was the listless ineptitude of Allan Moore’s men during the first half they will have been relieved to have found the sanctuary of the dressing room only two behind, such was Hamilton’s dominance.
With the damage already done there was a little more life about Morton after the break and they halved the deficit late on with a prodded David O’Brien strike, but in truth they never seriously threatened to do enough to pinch the most unlikely of points.
