McGlynn in the frame for Falkirk job

FORMER Hearts manager John McGlynn has emerged as a new frontrunner for the vacant Falkirk job.

The Falkirk board of directors have compiled a shortlist of candidates, and McGlynn’s name has come to the fore.

Early favourite David Weir is understood not to be in the running any longer. Former Falkirk player Weir, who is currently on the coaching staff at Everton, would have had to relocate to Scotland to take on the post.

McGlynn is also wanted by Falkirk’s First Division rivals Livingston and is reported to have been interviewed by the West Lothian side, where others in contention are former Rangers player Alex Cleland, former Celtic player Mark Burchill, and Richie Burke, the current caretaker manager.

At Falkirk, McGlynn could face competition from Colin Cameron, who has won plenty of admirers since taking charge at Cowdenbeath, and former Bairns favourite Russell Latapy.

McGlynn was spotted on the bench at Tuesday night’s Under-19 fixture between Scotland and Sweden at Somerset Park. The coach was brought in by the Scottish Football Association just for one match to assist
manager Ricky Sbragia.
