Livingston arrested a run of three straight defeats with a draw at home to Queen of the South – but could have taken all three points had they not shot themselves in the foot.

Lions goalkeeper Andy McNeil made a mistake at the opening goal, allowing Danny Carmichael’s drive to slip through his hands to give Tam Brighton a simple tap-in.

The match survived a morning pitch inspection following heavy overnight rain but the former Hibs player couldn’t use the condition of the playing surface as an excuse for his glaring error.

Liam Fox brought the hosts, who had been camped in their own half for much of the first half, level five minutes before the break with a neat finish from 12 yards after being teed up by Marc McNulty.

Livingston were much improved following the interval and deservedly went ahead in the 73rd minute when Stefan Scougall turned in a shot from inside the box after Bobby Barr’s effort ricocheted in the area.

But First Division basement side Queens picked up a vital point when Ryan McGuffie converted an 81st-minute penalty after Lions defender Craig Barr had fouled Ryan Smillie. Queens then had defender Craig Reid sent off in injury time after he picked up his second booking for pulling down Iain Russell.
