Hamilton 1 - 2 Morton: Morton fend off late flurry
TWO first-half goals gave Morton a deserved win despite a late rally from Hamilton.
Morton came perilously close to snatching an early lead when, with just five minutes gone, Archie Campbell cleverly slipped the ball to David O’Brien, darting in from the left, but his angled drive, from 15 yards out, flashed just wide of the far post.
Morton took the lead in 24 minutes after a horrendous mix-up in defence. Simon Mensing, under pressure from Campbell, tried to head the ball back to goalkeeper Scott Christie, but only succeeded in nodding it past him for the little striker to race through and tap into the empty net.
Five minutes later Allan Moore’s side doubled their lead when O’Brien cut inside from the left and cracked a low 17-yard drive past Christie. Andy Ryan headed in from close range with five minutes remaining to throw Accies a lifeline, but Morton held on.
