Dumbarton 3 - 4 Airdrie: Airdrie bounce back for last-gasp win
Resilient Airdrie, seemingly on track to follow last weekend’s trouncing by Partick, came back after trailing 2-0 at the break to earn a valuable win over still-winless Dumbarton, who seemed to have produced the classic reaction to a change of management.
SCORERS:
Dumbarton - Prunty 23; Lister 27; McDougall 75
Airdrie - Stallard 64; Watt, 68; Forsyth o.g. 86; Blockley 90
Kenny Arthur in the Diamonds goal had already been busy before the Sons’ opening goal arrived.
Mark Gilhaney found James Creaney on the left and his cross was stuck low into the net just beyond Arthur’s right hand.
Boosted in confidence, Dumbarton soon moved two ahead. This time the low cross was from the right and, diving in spectacular fashion, Jim Lister headed it home.
But Airdrie hit back with their own two goals in four minutes just after the hour mark. First Kieron Stallard stuck home a flick from Grant Evans. Then Josh Ward finished off a Paul Di Giacomo cross.
Steven McDougall’s goal seemed to have sealed it for the Sons but two more Airdrie goals in the last minutes saw Airdrie home. The first was an own goal by Ross Forsyth and then Nathan Blockley shot home Gavin Griffin’s cross.
